Air Force Rifle downs Ohio State, 4665-4646

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Air Force rifle team improved its conference record to 2-0 after beating #10 Ohio State, 4665-4646, at home today, Dec. 4. In smallbore, the Falcons beat the Buckeyes 2318-2302. In air rifle, the Falcons won by three points, 2347-2344. Fourth ranked Air Force is now 11-0 and 2-0 in the Patriot Rifle Conference.

Earlier in the day, the teams competed in smallbore and the Falcons defeated the Buckeyes by 16 points. Air Force's David Higgins had the highest score finishing with a 584. Tyler Rico was second with a 580. Ohio State's Deanna Binnie had the team's highest score of 579. Air Force's NCAA official scores were posted by Higgins (584), Rico (580), Meredith Carpentier, who had a 578, and Spencer Brandon, who finished with a 576. Ryan Jacobs also scored a 560.

In air rifle, Rico was the top finisher with 594 points, while OSU's Mark Matheny posted a score of 590. Posting official scores for Air Force were Rico (594), Carpentier with a 587, Jacobs who had a 585 and Higgins with a 581. Kevyn Stinett also scored a 570.

Air Force shooters will compete in the 2014 Winter Air Gun Championships, Dec. 5-7, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
