
Falcons Slip to Rams' Rally, 68-56

J.J. Avila scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Jon Octeus added 18 points to lead Colorado State past Air Force, 68-56, Saturday afternoon in a Mountain West Conference game in Clune Arena.
Avila scored four points and Octeus eight to key a 16-4 run in the final 4:35 of the game for Colorado State. The Rams hit all eight free throw attempts during the run to secure the win, their sixth straight in the series. Colorado State held massive advantages in rebounds and free throws, out-rebounding the Falcons 47-17 and having an edge in free throw attempts, 33-12. The Rams hit 41.3 percent from the field and 75.8 percent from the line.
Tre' Coggins, who missed the previous three games, led the Falcons with 19 points off the bench and tied his career-high with five 3-pointers. Kamryn Williams added 13 points and Max Yon 11. The Falcons hit just 42 percent from the field, including a six-of-23 clip three 3-point territory. Air Force forced 18 Colorado State turnovers while committing just nine, the fewest in a game since having just four vs. Western State on Dec. 9. Air Force also had seven blocked shots and eight steals.
Colorado State improved to 14-10 overall and 5-6 in the conference while the Falcons fell to 9-13 and 3-8.
