
Falcons fall short at Whittier

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force fell behind early in the third quarter and never recovered in a 10-9 loss to Whittier College in a non-conference water polo game Friday, Sept. 12, in Whittier, Calif.
The teams were tied at the 6-6 at the half, but Whittier scored three goals in the third quarter and never relinquished the lead. Air Force got within one goal in the fourth quarter, but was never able to find the equalizer. Petar Jackovich, Eric Curia and Ben Rogers each scored two goals for the Falcons. Robby Stiefel and Dominic Vicino each had a goal and two assists. Max Benson made nine saves for the Falcons.
The Falcons compete in the annual Inland Empire Tournament in La Verne, Calif., Sept. 13-14. Air Force will meet Pomona-Pitzer (10:20 am) and Claremont-Mudd Scripps (2:40 pm) on Saturday, Sept. 13. Air Force will then battle Redlands (9:00 am) and third-ranked USC (2:20 pm) on Sunday, Sept. 14. --30--
