
Air Force Rebounds to Sweep Abilene Christian

Junior Akokwe Clement, who notched 16 kills this morning, added another 18 against Abilene Christian, to account for nearly half of the Falcons' kill (39). She also led all players with a .375 hitting percentage (17k-2e-40a) and added a service ace. In addition to leading the squad with a pair of aces, senior Hillary Keltner recorded her 31st double-double, after recording 32 assists and tying for the team lead with 13 digs (junior Rebecca Bates). Senior Victoria Foster led the team with four assisted blocks.
Clement opened the second with a kill and added another score to help the Falcons jump out to a 12-3 advantage. In addition to recording a kill during the Falcons' opening run, Foster teamed up with junior Maggie Sherrill and Rosas for blocks. Abilene Christian scored five of the next seven points, but Holt recorded a pair of kills to help Air Force double up the Wildcats (16-8). Keltner and Foster put down kills, but Abilene Christian cut the Falcons' advantage to three (20-18) with a 9-4 run. Holt and Clement stopped the run with kills, and three straight ACU attacking errors gave Air Force a 25-19 victory.
Abilene Christian took an early 4-2 lead, before Clement put down back-to-back kills during a 3-0 run that gave Air Force the edge. The Wildcats used another run to go up 11-9, but the Falcons responded with their own run, scoring 11 of the next 14 points. Clement (three), Holt, Keltner and Rosas recorded kills as Air Force advanced to a 20-14 advantage, while Keltner and senior Emma Dridge served up aces. Sherrill, Foster and Clement added additional scores as Air Force took the 25-19 win.
Clement tallied the opening point of the third, but Abilene Christian scored four of the next five points to take a 4-2 advantage. Another kill by Clement halted the Wildcats' streak and sparked a 7-1 run by the Falcons. During a stretch that saw Air Force take an 11-5 lead, Sherrill added a pair of kills and assisted with Foster on a block, while Clement recorded a kill and a service ace. The Wildcats pulled within one (14-13), but a pair of kills from Clement and another ace from Keltner gave Air Force a 19-15 advantage. Junior Rachael Bradley Powers added a service ace and Holt recorded a solo block and kill, as the Falcons completed the sweep of Abilene Christian with a 25-17 victory.
Air Force concludes action at the Lone Star Showdown tomorrow (Sept. 20), when it faces tournament host Texas Tech at 1:00 p.m.
