
Falcons Fall In Overtime at Rice

HOUSTON, Texas - Air Force women's soccer dropped a 3-2 match in overtime at Rice Saturday night at Holloway Field. The Falcons, playing their fifth overtime match of the season, snapped a three-game winning streak and dropped to 3-4-0.
The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, only to see the match get away. Rice (4-1-2) scored the golden goal in the 97th minute.
Air Force scored goals in the 21st and 23rd minutes to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Freshman Angela Karamanos scored the first goal at the 20:42 mark, with sophomore Madeleine Lundberg getting the assist. Junior Ally Swift scored just two minutes later at the 22:43 mark with Kaylee Shalongo getting the assist.
Jenny Fichera put Rice on the scoreboard with a goal in the 29th minute. The Owls tied it up in the 65th minute as Lauren Hughes scored. Hughes scored the game-winner at the 96:39 mark to rally Rice to the win.
The Falcons had 11 shots on the night. Swift led the way with four shots, three on goal. Freshman Alex Kahalley played the first half in goal for AFA. Freshman Meghan Strang played the remining 51.39 in goal. Both goalkeepers had one save each.
Air Force has already played five overtime matches this season, just one shy of tying the school record of six overtime matches in one season.
Air Force returns to action next weekend, opening Mountain West play hosting Boise State on Friday, Sept. 26.
