Nebraska defeated Air Force 5-2 Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb., to hand the Falcons their first loss of the season. Nebraska opened the match by winning the doubles point, then winning four singles matches. Natasha Rizvi and Jocelle Rudico won the lone doubles match, beating Lehmicke and Shivalingaiah, 6-4.
Chloe Forlini defeated Hanna, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 at No 3 singles while Tracy Landram defeated Andersson, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles for the two Air Force singles wins.
"This was a barn burner and we played well enough to win, Air Force head coach Kim Gidley said. "The doubles could not of been any closer, losing in two tiebreakers. We also won the extra doubles - Forlani and Stapler, saving two match points. The team carried that momentum into the singles and fought for every point. With two matches left on the court - one where we won the first set and another where we came back from 5-2 down to go to a tiebreaker and give our team the win if we could convert. The fight was there, we just came up short. I was really proud of everyone that competed and gave our team a chance to win."
