The Air Force water polo team, ranked 14th in the nation, split two games on the second day of the annual So Cal Tournament, Oct. 11, in Malibu, Calif.
Air Force opened the second day of the tournament by scoring five unanswered goals en route to a 10-5 win over No. 15 UC San Diego. Zach Kamai scored two of the five goals as the Falcons held a 5-0 lead late in the second quarter. UCSD scored a late goal and the Falcons had a 5-1 lead at the half. Ben Rogers, Justin Harrison and Riley Thomas scored in the third as the Falcons led 8-3 at the end of three quarters. Each team scored twice in the fourth. Kamai, Rogers, Thomas and Robby Stiefel each scored two goals. Stiefel also had three assists and seven steals. Max Benson made five saves.
In the final game of the tournament, No. 8 Pepperdine raced out to a 6-2 lead after one quarter and defeated Air Force, 16-6. With an 8-3 lead at the half, the Waves outscored the Falcons, 7-1, in the third quarter and had a 15-4 lead entering the final quarter. Garrett Fisk and Justin Harrison led the Falcons with two goals each.
The Falcons return home for a conference game against Loyola Marymount, Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Cadet Natatorium.
