Air Force Men Finish Second at Rocky Mountain Shootout

BOULDER, Colo. – Junior Ryan Graf paced the Air Force men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the 30th-annual Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday, Oct. 3, in Boulder. It is the third-straight year that the Falcons have earned runner-up honors on the 8K course of Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course.
With a time of 26:18, Graf placed eighth among Division I runners and 15th overall in the full 133-runner field. Freshman Jacob Bilvado crossed the finish line on Graf's heels, using a time of 26:20 to place ninth in DI and 16th overall. Sophomore Forrest Isenhour added a top-25 finish in the overall standings, as he placed 21st with a time of 26:25. Freshman Andrew Tankersley and sophomore Jimmy Shipley rounded out the Falcons' scoring finishers, as they placed 28th (26:45) and 35th (26:51), respectively.
Top-ranked Colorado won its home invitational with 15 points, while Air Force finished second (50) and Northern Colorado rounded out the Division I team standings with 85 points. The full field included non-DI teams from fourth-ranked (DII) Colorado Mines, Colorado Mesa, Gillette, Western State and Central Wyoming College, as well as numerous individual and unattached runners.
Eight additional Falcons also completed the 8K course at Buffalo Ranch this morning. Sophomore Conner Wilburn finished 42nd in the overall field with a time of 27:04, while classmate Anthony Bucci clocked in at 27:12 to place 52nd. Freshmen Noah Riley (58th, 27:21) and John Quinn (61st, 27:22) placed within the top half of the field, while classmates Nikolai Rhodes and Nathan Thomas finished back-to-back in 68th (27:42) and 69th (27:45), respectively. Fellow freshman Parker Seale placed 87th with a time of 28:36 and classmate Nic Cheuvront clocked a time of 28:57 to finish 98th.
Freshman Jaci Smith was the lone Air Force representative in the women's 5.8K race, competing as an individual in the 86-competitor event. In her collegiate debut, Smith finished 46th overall with a 5.8K time of 23:28.
Air Force is then off from competition until Saturday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Louisville, Ky., for the annual Pre-Nationals Invitational at Tom "E.P." Sawyer Park – site of the 2015 NCAA Championships.
