Air Force athletics is upgrading the scoreboard in Falcon Stadium and the new board will be installed for the 2016 season, according to an announcement today by Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton.
The board is the first of several renovations to Falcon Stadium that are being planned. A fundraising campaign for the stadium was announced in the spring and the video board is the first step.
The video board will be the largest in the Mountain West and among the service academies, a goal that Knowlton had earlier stated. The board is over 2,500 square feet of HD video display (dimensions are 31-2 by 82-8) and includes a state-of-the-art audio system.
Manufactured by market leader Daktrontics of Brookings, S.D., the video board comes with new HD ribbon displays for the north and south end zones and a new marquee on Falcon Stadium Blvd.
"Falcon Stadium is an important asset to the Academy; not only for athletics, but it also serves as the premier venue for marquee activities such as graduation and community events,” said Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson. "I am thrilled to add this state-of-the-art scoreboard which will enhance our visitor experience while meeting our goal of maintaining an exemplar installation."
“We are really excited about this next step in the renovations of Falcon Stadium,” Knowlton said. “The fan engagement is an important part of game days and we are excited to add an HD scoreboard that will greatly enhance the fan experience.”
