NEW ORLEANS – Four members of the Air Force cross country team claimed all-region accolades from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this evening at the conclusion of the regional championship meets that took place in nine locations around the country.
Seniors Hannah Everson and Patrick Corona earned the second all-region accolades of their career, while junior Kyle Eller and sophomore Carina Gillespie each picked up their first award.
The four Air Force selections are tied for the most in one season since 2000.
Everson easily won the women's 6K at the Mountain Region Championships in Albuquerque, becoming the Academy's first regional champion and just the second to capture all-region honors in multiple years. She was joined on the women's all-Mountain Region team by Gillespie, who finished 21st in the 127-runner race for her first all-region selection.
On the men's side, Eller and Corona finished third and fourth, respectively, out 106 runners in the first 10K race of the season. Eller claimed the first all-region honor of his career, while Corona became the eighth Air Force runner since 2000 to claim all-region accolades more than once.
A total of 450 student-athletes (225 men, 225 women) earned all-region distinction by finishing among the top 25 individual finishers at each of the nine regional sites.
