NEW ORLEANS – Air Force senior Hannah Everson was named the Mountain Region's Female Athlete of the Year, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association announced today (Nov. 17) following a vote of Division I coaches. It is the first USTFCCCA regional cross country award for a member of the Falcons' program.
Everson is coming off of a first-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships last weekend in Albuquerque, bettering the field of 127 runners by over 10 seconds. The senior, who claimed her second all-region and third all-conference award this year, became the Academy's first regional champion and the first to earn a USTFCCCA National Runner of the Week award (Sept. 7).
For the season, the Colorado Springs native has placed within the top five of all six meets, including five top-three finishes. In addition to winning the CSU Invitational (out of 100 runners) and Mountain Regional (127), Everson finished second at the Pre-National Invitational (311), third at the Mountain West Championships (83) and fifth at the Washington Invitational (113).
Everson will join classmate Patrick Corona and junior Kyle Eller at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21.
