NEW ORLEANS – Following its conference title at last weekend's Mountain West Championships, the Air Force men's cross country team moved up five spots to No. 21 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division I National Coaches' Poll, which was released today (Nov. 3). It is the highest national ranking for the Falcons since it held the same placement during Week 2 of the 2005 season.
The Falcons, previously-ranked 26th in the coaches' poll, earned the program's first conference title in 12 years last Friday (Oct. 30), combining for 49 points. Finishing second (26:30.41) and third (26:30.52), respectively, in the individual standings, senior Patrick Corona and junior Kyle Eller paced the Falcons to the MW team title. Including an additional top-10 finish from senior Dan Caddigan (10th, 27:01.65), all five of Air Force's scoring runners finished within the top 21, as junior Matt Dorsey finished 13th (27:05.73) and senior Daniel Shellhouse placed 21st (27:34.16).
Air Force returns to action next Friday (Nov. 13), when it travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the NCAA Mountain Region Championships. The meet, which is slated to begin at noon with the women's 6K race, will be held at the New Mexico North Golf Course.
