Sunwoo Choi Paces Falcons at Loyola Golf Invitational

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Backed by a top-10 finish from sophomore Sunwoo Choi, the Air Force golf team concluded competition at the Loyola Golf Invitational, sponsored by The Neville Kovacs Group, this afternoon (Feb. 24) in Goodyear, Ariz. As a team, the Falcons finished 10th in the 17-team tournament, with a three-round, 54-hole score of 902 (302-297-303, 38 over par).
Choi became the squad's first top-10 finisher of the season, as he fired an even-par 72 on the final 18 to finish in a tie for seventh. The sophomore concluded the 54-hole tournament with a one-under par total of 215 (70-73-72).
Freshman J.D. Kiesewetter shot a three-over par score of 75 in the final round to finish within the top half of the field (49th) and a three-round total of 226 (77-74-75, 10 over). Junior Michael Fan tied for 56th with a 12-over par score of 228 (77-75-76), while senior Blake Edwards and sophomore Brenden Bone tied for 80th (235, 78-75-82) and 85th (237, 80-77-80), respectively.
Competing as individuals at the Palm Valley Golf Club, freshman Dane Hankamer and sophomore Troy Berglund tied for 80th and 90th, respectively, in the overall standings. Hankamer shot a 79 on the final day to finish with a 235 (76-80-79), while Berglund recorded an 83 in the third round to finish with a three-day score of 240 (80-77-83).
Utah Valley won the tournament with a four-over par score of 868, while Arizona State's Broc Johnson claimed individual honors with a nine-under par total of 207.
Air Force is off until March 16-17, when it travels to Primm, Nev., for the Jackrabbit Invitational.
