Air Force rifle finishes seventh in the nation, places fifth in air rifle, eighth in small bore
U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Following the 2015 NCAA Men's and Women's Rifle Championships, March 13-14, in Fairbanks, Alaska, the Air Force rifle team placed seventh in the nation with an aggregate score of 4642 points. On Saturday, in the air rifle, the team finished in fifth place with 2360 points and on Friday, in the small bore Air Force placed eighth with 2282 points for the aggregate 4642 total. Two cadets qualified for the air rifle finals.
West Virginia is the national champion with 4702 total points followed by Alaska with 4700 points. TCU had 4667 points, and Nebraska finished with 4667 points (the tiebreaker between the two teams was the 275 center shots scored by TCU, Nebraska had 262 center shots). Jacksonville State was fifth with 4664 points, Kentucky finished with 4657 points scored, Air Force with 4642 and Murray State finished eighth with 4637 total points.
In the air rifle shoot-off, Ryan Jacobs scored 142.7 points to finished in fifth place, and Tyler Rico scored a 101.4 and finished seventh in the nation.
In the air rifle championships, Jacobs qualified for the finals with scores of 198, 197 and 199 totaling 594, points in the competition. It is Jacobs' first time at the national championships; his 594 is also a career best in the rifle. Rico finished the match with a 594 also, scoring a 198, 196, and had a perfect 200.
In the air rifle, Kevyn Stinett finished 31st overall with 586 points. David Higgins scored a 586 and finished 32nd. Meredith Carpentier had a 585 and placed 35th. The team had a total of 2360 points in air rifle.
On Friday in the small bore individual championships, Higgins finished with 567 points and placed 41st overall. Jacobs finished with 569 points, and both finished the match with 23 center shots each. Jacobs placed 36th overall. Placing 42nd overall, Carpentier finished with 567 points, and Stinett placed 44th with 566 points. Rico finished in 12th place with 572 points with 32 center shots and had the second-highest score in the relay. The team finished eighth with 2282 points in the small bore.
