
Air Force Baseball Falls Sunday at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Air Force baseball dropped a 9-2 Mountain West game at San Diego State Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Falcons dropped to 9-13, 5-7 MW on the season.
The Aztecs (19-5, 7-2) led 7-0 after three innings and never looked back. San Diego State scored a run in the first and second innings before erupting for the big third inning. Two runs in the fifth had SDSU ahead 9-0.
The Falcons scored two runs in the ninth off back-to-back doubles and a single. Leftfielder Tyler Jones and first baseman Tyler Saleck hit back-to-back doubles to score Jones. Saleck came around to score on an RBI-single by designated hitter David Thomas.
The Falcons had 10 hits in the game. Jones, Saleck and third baseman Noah Pierce had two hits each for the Falcons.
Sophomore lefthander Jacob DeVries (3-3) took the loss in the start for the Falcons. DeVries worked 4.1 innings, striking out four. The Falcon bullpen combined for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief. Junior lefty Trent Monaghan pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief and senior righthander Ben Yokley tossed a scoreless eighth.
Marcus Reyes (3-0) tossed seven scoreless innings in the start and win for SDSU. The Aztecs had 11 hits on the day. Catcher Seby Zavala went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs for San Diego State.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, March 24, beginning a two-game midweek series at Creighton. The Falcons play the Bluejays at TD Ameritrade Park, home of the College World Series.
