
Air Force Drops Series-Opener at Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Air Force baseball dropped a 6-0 non-conference game at Jacksonville State Friday night at Rudy Abbott Field. The Falcons dropped to 9-15 while the Gamecocks improved to 15-8.
Zachary Fowler and Graham Officer combined to toss a three-hit shutout for Jacksonville State. Fowler (4-2) allowed two hits and struck out eight over seven innings of work. Officer pitched two scoreless to close out the game.
Sophomore Griffin Jax (1-5) struck out eight in seven innings in the start for the Falcons. Freshman Ryan Holloway struck out two in the eighth.
Sophomore centerfielder Adam Groesbeck went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead AFA. Groesbeck hit his team-leading 10th double of the season as well. Freshman shortstop Shaun Mize also had a hit for the Falcons and sophomore leftfielder Tyler Jones stole a base.
The Gamecocks had eight hits on the night. Catcher Hayden White went 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBIs.
Jacksonville State scored its first two runs in the second inning. The Gamecocks added three runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth.
Game two of the three-game series is tomorrow. First pitch is 1 pm CT.
