SUNRISE, Fla. - Junior Mateus Arcano claimed his first NCBA national title on Sunday, April 12, as the Air Force boxing team wrapped up competition at the 40th-annual National Collegiate Boxing Association Championships in Sunrise, Florida. As a team, the Falcons finished third in the team standings.
Unopposed at 112 pounds, Arcano captured his first NCBA title and the program's first at that weight class since 2013 (Drew Pineda).
Senior Roy Taylor and junior Gytenis Borusas also competed today at the BB&T Center, but dropped close decisions to finish second in their respective weight divisions. Taylor lost a tight 125-pound decision to San Jose State's Ryan Ruelan, the 2014 silver medalist, while Borusas dropped a close bout with Washington's Richard Vansiclen at 175 pounds.
