
Falcons Fall 6-5 at UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Air Force baseball dropped a 6-5 Mountain West contest at UNLV on Sunday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Falcons dropped to 19-23, 10-14 while the Rebels are now 19-23, 6-15.
For the third consecutive game, the Falcons led early, only to have UNLV overtake the lead.
The Falcons plated runs in the second and third inning to build an early 2-0 lead. UNLV scored two in the bottom of the third to tie the game. A four-run fifth inning put the Rebels up 6-2.
Air Force chipped away at the deficit, scoring two in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it a 6-5 game. The Falcons were unable to score in the final two innings however.
UNLV had 10 hits in the game. Second baseman Payton Squire continued his hot hitting, going 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Starting pitcher Blaze Bohall (5-2) picked up the win, allowing four runs in 5.1 innings pitched. Brayden Torres pitched the last 1.1 innings to pick up the save.
Air Force had eight hits on the day. Designated hitter Bradley Haslam went 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Centerfielder Adam Groesbeck hit his fifth home run of the season and had two RBIs. Shortstop Shaun Mize and reserve first baseman Russell Williams hit triples for AFA.
Junior Trent Monaghan (4-4) pitched a career-high 7.1 innings in the loss. Monaghan tied a career-high with six strikeouts. Senior Ben Yokley relieved Monaghan in the eighth retiring two batters.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, April 28, at Northern Colorado.
