Meet Notes 02: at Woody Greeno Invitational ![]()
Members of the Air Force men's cross country team will travel to Lincoln, Neb., this Saturday (Sept. 19) for the 26th annual Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational. Action will get underway for the Falcons at 10:45 a.m. (CT), as the squad competes in their first 8K race of the year.
MEET INFORMATION
The Woody Greeno Invitational, hosted jointly by the University of Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan University, will take place at Pioneers Park in southwest Lincoln. More than 50 teams and 600 individuals are scheduled to compete. The event officially kicks off with a women's 6K race at 10:00 a.m., while the men will follow with an 8K race at 10:45 a.m.
WHO TO WATCH...
Air Force will send 19 members of its men's team to Nebraska this weekend, including Sean Bapty, Jacob Bilvado, Anthony Bucci, Grant Caswell, Mickey Davey, Ryan Graf, Forrest Isenhour, Sean Lyons, Andrew Milliron, John Quinn, Nikolai Rhodes, Noah Riley, Parker Seale, Jimmy Shipley, Trevor Siniscalchi, Andrew Tankersley, Nathan Thomas, Tim Ward and Conner Wilburn.
AIR FORCE AT THE WOODY GREENO INVITATIONAL
The men have claimed the team title of the Woody Greeno Invitational six times (2012, 2011, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2000), while sharing the title with Nebraska in 1999. Individually, Jim Walmsley captured back-to-back titles in 2010-11. The women won the team title in 2012, snapping host Nebraska's seven-year stretch of victories.
EVERSON CLAIMS NATIONAL HONOR
Hannah Everson was named the USTFCCCA Division I National Runner of the Week on Sept. 8. Everson, who also nabbed the Mountain West Runner of the Week award that day, is the first Academy athlete in program history to earn a weekly award from the USTFCCCA.
AWARD-WINNING DETAILS
Crossing the finish line five seconds ahead of the rest of the 100-runner field, Hannah Everson won the Colorado State Invitational with a time of 17:31.8. The senior, who also captured the meet title during the squad's last appearance in Fort Collins (2013), was the Falcons' top finisher for the 10th consecutive meet.
MEN WIN CSU INVITATIONAL
Backed by four finishes within the top 11, the men captured the team title at the CSU Invitational and earned a perfect 4-0 record over their Division I counterparts. Just 0.4-seconds separating the Falcons' top-three finishers, as Andrew Johnston (15:03.5), Kyle Eller (15:03.8) and Patrick Corona (15:03.9) finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, in the full 107-runner event. Matt Dorsey finished 11th with a time of 15:07.9, while Daniel Shellhouse rounded out the squad's scoring contingent with a 19th-place time of 15:21.5.
WOMEN FINISH SECOND IN SEASON OPENER
Backed by top-five finishes from Hannah Everson (first, 17:38.1) and Carina Gillespie (fifth, 17:41.7), the women placed second in the team standings and amassed a 3-1 record against their Division I opponents. All five scoring runners finished within the top 20 of the full 100-runner race, as Katie Burnham (15th, 18:04.0), Samantha Skold (16th, 18:09.4) and Lindy Long (20th, 18:17.8) rounded out the Falcons' scoring finishers.
LOOKING AHEAD
Air Force is off from competition until the beginning of October, when the squad splits for a pair of meets. Part of the team will head to Seattle, Wash., for the Washington Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2, while the rest head to Boulder, Colo., on Saturday, Oct. 3, for the annual Rocky Mountain Shootout.
