USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer dropped a 2-1 match to CSU Bakersfield (2-5-1) in its final non-conference match Sunday afternoon at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons fell to 2-6 on the season.
All the scoring came early, as all three goals were scored in the first 10 minutes of play.
Air Force jumped ahead with a goal at the 2:35 mark by sophomore Angela Karamanos. Junior Alison Skidmore fired through the CSUB defense and reached Karamanos at the top of the penalty box. Karamanos then fired to the right post for her second goal of the season.
Just minutes later, CSU Bakersfield tied the match up as Chloe Peepgrass lofted a shot from 35 yards out at the 7:32 mark for the score. The Roadrunners took the lead less than three minutes later as Sabrina Delgado shot to the top right corner from 25 yards out for game winner at the 10:12 mark.
"We made some critical mistakes early and it cost us the game," Air Force head coach Larry Friend said. "It was a heroic effort in the second-half, but we've got to manage the game better and take care of the details if we're going to be successful in conference play."
Air Force dominated the shot attempts, 18-7, but could not find the equalizer. Eleven Falcons attempted shots, with freshman Taylor Cobb leading the way with three attempts. Karamanos and junior Kristina O'Sullivan added two shot attempts.
Air Force returns to action Friday, Sept. 25, beginning Mountain West play at UNLV.
