Air Force Splits for Two Weekend Meets

The Air Force cross country team returns to action this weekend, as it splits for a pair of competitions. Part of the squad will travel to Seattle, Wash., for the Washington Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2, while the rest of the team will remain in Colorado to compete at the annual Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday, Oct. 3.

WASHINGTON INVITATIONAL INFORMATION
The Washington Invitational will be held on Friday, Oct. 2, at the Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle. The women's 6K race is slated to get underway at 3:15 p.m., while the men's 8K will follow at 4:00 p.m. Five ranked teams – Stanford (M: 2nd, W: 4th), Oregon (M: 5th, W: 5th), UCLA (M: 11th), BYU (M: 12th, W: 23rd), Washington (M: RV, W: 15th) are scheduled to compete on Friday, as well as squads from Portland (M: RV), Air Force, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Oregon State, Seattle and Washington State.
WHO TO WATCH...
Air Force will send 12 men – Sean Bapty, Dan Caddigan, Grant Caswell, Patrick Corona, Matt Dorsey, Mickey Davey, Kyle Eller, Jason Engel, Andrew Johnston, Andrew Milliron, Daniel Shellhouse and Trevor Siniscalchi – and seven women – Katie Burnham, Shanna Burns, Hannah Everson, Carina Gillespie, Lindy Long, Anna Olesinski and Samantha Skold – to the Washington Invitational.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN SHOOTOUT INFORMATION
The 30th-annual Rocky Mountain Shootout will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course in Boulder. The women will kick off the day with a 5.8K race at 9:00 a.m., while the men will follow with an 8K event at 9:45 a.m. Colorado, ranked a unanimous #1 in the men's poll and #2 in the women's rankings, will host Division I teams from Air Force, Colorado State (M: 26th) and Wyoming, as well as several local Division II and Division III programs.
WHO TO WATCH...
The Falcons will send 15 men to the Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday, including Jacob Bilvado, Anthony Bucci, Nic Cheuvront, Ryan Graf, Forrest Isenhour, Sean Lyons, John Quinn, Nikolai Rhodes, Noah Riley, Parker Seale, Jimmy Shipley, Andrew Tankersley, Nathan Thomas, Tim Ward and Conner Wilburn. On the women's side, Jaci Smith is slated to make her collegiate debut.
HISTORY 101
The men have finished second at the Rocky Mountain Shootout five times in their last 11 trips to Boulder (2003, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2014), while tying for the runner-up spot one other time (2002). The women, who do not usually send a full complement of runners to Boulder, have earned one second-place finish (2002).
MILLIRON NAMED MW RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Milliron was named the Mountain West Runner of the Week on Sept. 22, becoming the first member of the men's team to earn the weekly conference honor since 2013. Milliron was the Falcons' top finisher at the Woody Greeno Invitational, placing fifth in the University Division and 10th in the full field of 233 runners. Completing the 8K course in a time of 25:52.5, he cut nearly two minutes off of his previous best time at that distance.
MEN TAKE SECOND AT WOODY GREENO INVITATIONAL
Backed by five scoring runners within the top 13 of the Division I field, the men finished second at the Woody Greeno Invitational on Sept. 19. Andrew Milliron finished fifth in the DI field with a career-best 8K time of 25:52.5, while Mickey Davey and Trevor Siniscalchi placed seventh (25:58.0) and 10th (26:01.8), respectively. Air Force's scoring contingent was rounded out by Grant Caswell (11th, 26:01.9) and Ryan Graf (13th, 26:07.7).
LOOKING AHEAD
Air Force returns to competition on Saturday, Oct. 17, when it travels to Louisville, Ky., for the annual Pre-National Invitational at Tom "E.P." Sawyer Park – home of the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
