AFA Fencers take third in Western Fencing Championships

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Air Force fencing team competed in the Western Fencing Conference/West Invitational championship on Sunday, Jan. 17, in La Jolla, Calif. The Falcons placed third in both the men's (2-2) and women's (2-2) league match-ups while competing in the West Invitational at UC San Diego. Overall, the Air Force men finished 3-2, and the women's team finished 3-3.
In conference play, the Falcon men earned victories against Incarnate Word (21-6) and Caltech (18-9). Air Force defeated non-conference opponent Vassar (16-11). The Falcons' league losses were against UCSD (5-22) and No. 10 Stanford (9-18). The men's foil squad went 2-2, epee 0-4, and saber 2-2.
The Air Force women earned victories against Caltech (19-8) and Incarnate Word (21-6). The team's league losses were against UCSD (5-22) and Stanford (10-17). In non-conference action, Air Force defeated Vassar (17-10) and lost to No. 5 Northwestern (6-21). The women's squads were 3-1 in foil, 0-4 in epee and 2-2 in saber.
