NEW ORLEANS – The Air Force men's track and field team is ranked 31st in the preseason edition of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division I National Team Computer Rankings, the USTFCCCA office announced today.
The preseason computer projections are based on the top returners from each school, with additional consideration given to early-season performances. Four Falcons contributed to the squad's preseason placement, including junior Taylor Smith (high jump) and seniors Dylan Bell (pole vault), Patrick Corona (3000-meter run) and Grant Hamilton (shot put).
Air Force's No. 31 ranking is the best among the Mountain West programs. New Mexico is ranked 40th, while Boise State (85th), Colorado State (92nd), Utah State (121st) and Wyoming (135th) are also listed in the preseason projections. In all, 140 teams were listed from a Division I field that features over 270 men's programs.
The Falcons return to action this Friday (Jan. 8), when they host the Air Force Collegiate Open.
