
Air Force Men Take Second at Rocky Mountain Shootout

BOULDER, Colo. -- Senior Jason Engel and junior Jimmy Shipley paced the Air Force men's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the 31st-annual Rocky Mountain Shootout, which took place this morning (Oct. 1) at the Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course in Boulder.
Just two seconds separated Engel and Shipley, who finished 15th (season-best 26:22) and 16th (career-best 26:24), respectively, in the 8K race that featured 117 runners. Backed by the pair's top-16 finishes, all five scoring runners placed within the race's top 25. Junior Anthony Bucci clocked a time of 26:49 to finish 23rd, while sophomore Tim Ward and junior Conner Wilburn finished 24th (26:53) and 25th (26:56), respectively, to complete the five-man scoring lineup.
Six other Falcons also completed the 8K course in Boulder, with three earning top-30 finishes and all finishing within the top half of the field. Freshman Adam Haynes finished just two seconds behind Wilburn to place 26th (26:58), while sophomore John Quinn finished 27th in 27:06 (career-best) and freshman Patrick Sullivan placed 29th in 27:12. Sophomore Nic Cheuvront added a 33rd-place time of 27:18 in his first race of the season at that distance, while freshman Jack Bluth finished 43rd (27:44), classmate Jordan Armstrong placed 45th (career-best 27:48) and sophomore Josh Wojciechowski took 47th (career-best 27:54).
Colorado, tied for fifth in the most recent USTFCCCA National Rankings, won its annual home event, while Air Force and Northern Colorado rounded out the Division I team standings. (official point totals are not available at this time).
Freshman Regan Hefner paced a quartet of Air Force freshmen that competed in the women's 5.8K race at Buffalo Ranch this morning. Hefner clocked in at 23.18 to finish 14th in the 90-runner event that included second-ranked Colorado. In addition to finishing eighth amongst Division I runners in the meet, the freshman also debuted in seventh on the Academy's Division I standings at that distance.
Swathi Samuel and Cassidy Osgood also placed within the top-30 of the event, finishing 26th (24:08) and 28th (24:08), respectively. Both times are listed among the program's DI top-25 standings at the 5.8K distance, with Samuel entering the list at No. 19 and Osgood debuting at No. 21. Fellow freshman Julie Culbertson rounded out the Air Force contingent, as she finished 31st overall with a time of 24:14.
