
Santa Clara rallies for 14-12 win over Falcons

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Santa Clara's Mac Carey scored two goals in the final 3:23 to lift the Broncos to a 14-12 win over Air Force in a Western Water Polo Association game, Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Academy's Cadet Natatorium. Air Force fell to 4-12 overall and 0-3 in the WWPA. Santa Clara improved to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Santa Clara took a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Falcons battled back to take an 8-7 lead at the half. The Broncos scored the first two goals of the third quarter, but Riley Thomas tied the game at 9-9 at 6:52 of the third. The teams traded goals as Brett Fogelberg's five-meter shot with 2:47 left in the third tied the game at 12-12. The game remained tied until late in the fourth when Carey scored the game-winner at 3:23 and added an insurance goal at 2:33.
Curia and Thomas each had three goals while Zach Kamai had two. Erik Whyte led the Falcons with three assists while Fogelberg had three steals.
Air Force travels to California for three games next week, UC Davis on Oct. 21, and Navy and Bucknell on Oct. 23. A
