
Air Force Resets MW Season with Two Home Matches

The Air Force volleyball team returns to the Academy this week, as it begins the second half of its Mountain West home-and-home season at Clune Arena. The Falcons will host UNLV at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 20, before facing New Mexico at 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 22.

SCOUTING THE REBELS
UNLV, which is receiving votes (eight) in the AVCA National Rankings, is 18-2 on the season and 7-1 in conference play after defeating New Mexico (3-1) and Utah State (3-2) on the road last week. The Rebels are ranked among the top three of the conference standings in kills (second, 14.17), digs (second, 15.96), assists (third, 12.92) and hitting percentage (third, .237), while Bree Hammel and Alexis Peterson are listed third in kills (3.92 per-set) and assists (11.28), respectively.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS
New Mexico, which will travel to Boise State prior to facing the Falcons, is currently 11-11 on the season and holds a 1-7 mark in league action. The Lobos dropped a pair of 3-1 MW matches to UNLV and Utah, before defeating New Mexico State 3-1 in non-conference action. With a 1.44 per-set average, New Mexico is currently ranked second in the Mountain West. Individually, Ashley Kelsey holds the same placement in digs, with a 4.20 average.
SERIES HISTORY
UNLV holds a 36-3 advantage in its series with the Falcons, while New Mexico leads the all-time series with Air Force by a 35-3 margin. Air Force, which defeated UNLV at the Academy last season to snap a 31-match losing streak to the Rebels, last defeated the Lobos in 2003. Both opponents swept Air Force during the opening weekend of conference action in late September.
AROUND THE CONFERENCE
Through the eight week of the 2016 campaign, three Falcons are listed among the top-10 of the Mountain West. Elizabeth Pennington is ranked fifth in kills (3.71) and points (4.16), while Abigail Miksch is listed sixth in kills (3.58) and eighth in points (3.84). Sarah Hellman is listed sixth in assists (9.80), while the team is ranked fourth in service aces (1.33) and fifth in digs (13.66).
WHAT'S ON DECK
The Falcons head back out on the road next week, for conference contests at San Diego State (Oct. 27) and Nevada (Oct. 29).
