
Air Force Downed By San Jose State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer dropped a 3-1 contest hosting San José State (9-4-4, 6-2-1 MW) in Mountain West action Friday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons moved to 7-7-2, 3-5-1 MW on the season.
San José State scored goals in the 15th, 72nd and 90th minutes.
The Spartans led early on a goal by Darriell Franklin in the 15th minute. Dorthe Hoppius had the assist on a give-and-go play.
Air Force battled back to tie the game in the 60th minute on a goal by sophomore Hailey Laub. Junior Brooke Rittmann, who was credited with the assist, fired a shot off the cross bar from 35 yards out. Haub was there for the rebound and cleaned up for her second goal of the season.
San José State re-took the lead with the score in the 72nd. Carley McBeath scored from 30 yards out off passes from Sabrina Miller and Franklin.
The Spartans scored with eight seconds left in the match to put the game out of reach. Hoppius scored off a pass from Alyssa Bertueit.
Air Force had 13 shots on the night. Senior Alison Skidmore led the Falcons with four attempts. Sophomore Jennifer Hiddink had six saves in goal.
"Ninety nine percent concentration is 100 percent failure," Air Force head coach Larry Friend said. "It was a tough night for us. We competed well but were undisciplined in moments of the game and it cost us. I'm tremendously grateful for our seniors. They have really contributed to all the improvements this program has made. We will bounce back on Sunday against Fresno State.
Prior to kickoff, Air Force honored its five graduating seniors. Kaitlyn Ennis, Ashley Greco, Kristina O'Sullivan, Meredith Reisinger and Skidmore comprise the graduating class of 2016-17
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Oct. 23, hosting Fresno State. Kickoff is 11:30 am MT.
