U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Members of the Air Force women's swimming team and the Falcon hockey team recently volunteered at Break Time at the Goodwill Possibilities in Colorado Springs. Break Time is a program designed to look after children with disabilities while their parents and guardians get much-needed time to rest and recharge.
While the cadets on each team visited the children at different times, the experiences were very similar. The cadets and children played board games, spent time in a ball pit, read books and did arts and crafts.
"The opportunity to spend time with some of the kindest, most incredible children in Colorado Springs was absolutely wonderful and so much fun," women' s swimming team captain Genevieve Miller said. "We were truly blessed to have been able to contribute help these families in a very small way."
"The children definitely kept us busy the whole time and were filled with lots of energy!," said Brianna Mount from the women's swimming team. " But the most rewarding part was seeing the smile on their faces when they realized they had a "play date" for the day. The team agreed this project opened our eyes to the remarkable community surrounding our campus and the many opportunities to serve that still await."
"We were so thankful for the opportunity to spend some time with some extraordinary kids and get to know them and their families," said Erik Baskin from the hockey team. "Hopefully the kids had as much fun as we did. We were very thankful for the opportunity to be part of such a great program and help out some incredibly hard-working families."
