Air Force downs Jacksonville to improve to 2-0

Jacob Van scored a season-high 23 points and had a career-best eight assists to lead four players in double figures as Air Force beat Jacksonville, 86-68, Monday night in a non-conference game in Clune Arena at the Academy.
The Falcons broke it open midway through the first half with a 10-0 run to take a 15-8 lead with 11:22 left. Hayden Graham hit two 3-pointers to key the run, the second giving the Falcons the lead for good, 11-8, with 13:57 to play. Air Force scored the final six points of the half to take a 40-26 halftime lead.
Air Force ran out to 20-point lead midway through the second half, 60-40, with 10:17 remaining. Jacksonville went 5:40 without a field goal as the Falcons remained in control. Air Force went on to lead by as many as 30 points, 81-51, with 5:17 to play.
Air Force hit 49.1 percent from the field on 26 of 53 shooting, including a 10-17 effort from 3-point range (58.8 percent). Air Force out-rebounded Jacksonville, 35-22, and had just 11 turnovers while assisting on 18 of 26 field goals. The Falcons scored 14 points off turnovers and had 14 second-chance points.
Trevor Lyons added 15 points, six rebounds and three steals while playing a team-high 27 minutes. Hayden Graham added 13 points and Zach Kocur chipped in with 10. Kyle Broekhuis added six points and six rebounds off the bench and Ryan Manning had seven points and three rebounds.
Jacksonville, who won at Denver on Saturday, was led by J.R. Holder, who scored 15 points. Devin Harris added 14 points and Andris Misters had 10. Jacksonville hit 47.9 percent from the field on 23 of 48 shooting.
Air Force improves to 2-0 for the first time since 2012-13. The Falcons host Johnson & Wales Tuesday at 7 p.m. Jacksonville falls to 1-1.
