
Steelhammer named MW Defensive Player of the Week

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force senior Weston Steelhammer was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week in helping lead the Falcons to a 41-38 win at San Jose State, Nov. 19.
The defensive back from Shreveport, La., led the team with 10 tackles (seven solo), including one tackle for loss, and two interceptions. With Air Force trailing 23-17 late in the third quarter and SJSU driving for a score, he intercepted a pass at the Falcon four-yard line to end the drive. With 16 seconds remaining in the game and Air Force leading 41-38, recorded his second interception of the game at the SJSU 35-yard line to secure the win for the Falcons.
Steelhammer, who earned his third career MW Player of the Week award, leads the team in tackles with 71, including 4.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He also leads the team in interceptions for the third straight season. Steelhammer has six interceptions which leads the Mountain West and ranks fourth nationally. He is tied for first in Air Force history and is the NCAA active Wcareer leader with 17 interceptions.
Air Force hosts No. 19/20 Boise State in the final home game of the season on Friday, Nov. 25, at 1:30 pm at Falcon Stadium.
