Carson Bird, a 2008 Academy graduate and a 2007 All-American defensive back, passed away over the weekend after a battle with chondrosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. A first-team all-conference cornerback in 2007, Bird helped the Falcons to a 9-4 record in 2007 and a runner-up conference finish.
Bird was recently honored as the honorary captain for Air Force's game vs. Georgia State in September. He was the keynote speaker at the Pride Club Golf Tournament at the Country Club of Colorado. Bird also served as the keynote speaker at the Bolt Brotherhood Alumni Dinner & Social at Cheyenne Mountain Resort. Bird, and his wife Brittany, led the Falcon football team out of the tunnel for the Georgia State game.
Bird was a three-year starter for Air Force and served in the Air Force as a communications officer following graduation. He returned to the Academy to serve as an instructor and coach at the Air Force Academy Prep School.
