MOUNTAIN WEST ANNOUNCES 2016 FOOTBALL OPPONENTS

The Mountain West released today each of the 12 league teams' 2016 football non-conference opponents and dates, along with the home and away matchups for intra-league play. The scheduling format for the 12-member football lineup consists of five intra-divisional games and three cross-divisional contests. Each institution will play four home and four road Conference games. This is the fourth year of the initial four-year cycle during which each member institution will play every other Mountain West opponent home and away.
The 2016 schedule will play out over 14 weeks, concluding on Sat., Dec. 3 with the Mountain West Football Championship Game to be played at the home stadium of the highest-ranked of the two divisional champions.
The non-conference slate features 22 games against teams that earned bowl berths in 2015, including Arizona, Arkansas State, BYU (2 games), California (2 games), Central Michigan, Georgia State, Michigan, Minnesota, Navy, Nebraska (2 games), Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Toledo, Tulsa (2 games), UCLA, USC, Utah and Washington State. Four non-conference opponents finished ranked in last year's final USA Today/Coaches' and Associated Press Top 25 polls, including #11/12 Michigan, #12/11 Notre Dame, #16/16 Utah and #18 Navy.
Dates for league matchups will be announced in the coming weeks, followed sequentially by details regarding non-Saturday games, television selections and kick times.
