Falcons in first place entering final day

HOUSTON, Texas -- Entering the final day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships, the Air Force men's swimming and diving team is in first place with 554 points. Wyoming is in second place with 487 points, while Grand Canyon in third (466), UNLV is fourth (422), North Dakota is fifth (268), CSU Bakersfield is sixth (236) and Seattle is seventh (127).
Air Force placed second at the WAC Championships in 2015 and third in 2014. The Falcons are battling for their first ever conference championship in men's swimming.
Senior Michael Barnosky broke his own WAC overall and championship record by posting a school record 51.98 in the 100 breast stroke, an NCAA "A" standard time. With that time, Barnosky has qualified for the NCAA Championships in Atlanta in March. Junior Kevin Fanter was fifth in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 53.93.
In the first event of the evening, junior Andrew Faciszewski was third in the 400 IM with an NCAA "B" time of 3:49.35. Sophomore Garrett Glaudini was sixth with an NCAA "B" time of 3:52.56.
Senior team captain Sean Ledford placed seventh in the 100 fly with a time of 48.34.
In the 200 free, junior Jordan Dahle was second (1:36.35) and senior Kevin Jackson was fourth (1:36.90). Both were NCAA "B" times.
In the 100 back stroke, three Falcons qualified for the finals as junior Devon Davis placed third (47.96), sophomore Joey Gebhart was fourth (48.85) and junior Kris Tillery was fifth (48.91).
In platform diving, senior Nathanael Zillweger was second (317.05) and A.J. Eckebrecht was third (293.25). In the three diving events at the WAC Championships, Zillweger won the WAC title on both the 1-meter and 3-meter spring board and added a second place finish on the tower.
In the final men's event of the day, the 400 medley relay, the team of Davis, Barnosky, Ledford and Dahle placed second with a time of 310.40.
"What an incredible night for us," head coach Rob Clayton said. "We are closing in on what could be a historic day for us as we are going after our first even conference title. The highlight of day was Michael Barnosky got an A cut in the 100 breast stroke."
