Air Force defeats Texas State in women's tennis

Air Force defeated Texas State, 4-2, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's tennis match in San Antonio, Texas. The win improves the Falcons to 6-5 on the season and 1-1 on their three-match road swing in Texas

Air Force opened the match by taking the doubles point. Mary Meyers and Lily Forlini defeated Rubio and Perez, 6-4, at No. 1 while Chloe Forlini and Jocelle Rudico beat Dench and Collins, 6-3, at No. 2 to clinch the point. The Falcons were leading 4-3 at No. 3 behind Elizabeth Barnickel and Elisa Nelson over Carr and Chia when the point was clinched.

The Falcons won the first three singles matches to secure the victory. Meyers defeated Dench, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 while Chloe Forlini was a 6-2, 7-5 winner at No. 2 over Parr. Forlini came from down 5-1 in the second set to win six straight games for the win. Barnickel defeated Rubio,7-6, 6-3 at No. 3 to clinch the match. Texas State's two wins came when Collins beat Lily Forlini, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 and Perez beat Nelson, 5-7, 7-6, 10-3, at No. 6. The No. 5 singles match did not finish.

"This was the first time this spring that we showed up in both singles and doubles in the same match," Air Force head coach Kim Gidley said. "This could have been our best doubles play of the year by all three teams. Texas State always has very strong doubles, so it was nice to start off with the doubles point. We didn't necessarily play great in singles, but everyone competed in their matches and that is what it's going to take for the team to win. This is the type of progress we love to see this time of year.

The Air Force women's tennis team challenged the Texas A&M Corp (Company E-1) to a push up competition to help raise awareness for the March of Dimes in San Antonio.
