Air Force Wrestling Falls to No. 22 Stanford

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Air Force dropped a 23-16 dual to No. 22 Stanford, Saturday, Feb. 6, at Discovery Canyon High School. Falcons earned wins in three of 10 weight classes and a forfeit win in the 157 class. Air Force's record drops to 5-5, 0-3 Big 12 while Stanford improves to 10-2, 2-1 Pac 12.
After Air Force dropped matches in the heavyweight and 125 classes, senior team captain, Josh Martinez won a 4-0 decision against Mason Pengilly to be the first falcon to put points on the board for Air Force. Martinez is currently 5-0 in dual action on the season.
Stanford would strike back with a fall from No. 2 Joey McKenna over Dylan Hyder and a decision win in the 149 class. Stanford would forfeit in the 157 class giving Air Force six points and narrowing Stanford's lead to seven points.
After Alex Lopouchanski dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 18 Jim Wilson, Air Force would regain traction from Adam Jackson's 4-2 decision over Peter Galli. In the following match, Zen Ikehara would drop a major decision in the 184 class extending Stanford's lead to 11 points.
In the final bout of the dual, Parker Hines earned five takedowns and commanded the 14-5 major decision over Michael Sojka to finalize the score at 23-16 in favor of Stanford.
Next week, the Falcon wrestling seniors, will compete in their final dual meet action in Clune Arena on Thursday, Feb. 11. The Falcons will host a pair of duals on the evening; first against Big 12 Conference opponent Utah Valley at 6:30 p.m., followed by New Mexico Highlands at 8:00 p.m.
