Air Force splits two home matches Saturday

Air Force split a pair of non-conference home matches Saturday at the Indoor Tennis Courts at the Academy. The Falcons opened the day with a 4-0 loss to 67th-ranked Wichita State in the morning before bouncing back to beat Metro State, 5-2, in the evening.
After winning the doubles point, the Shockers took the first three singles matches to clinch the victory. All three that finished went three sets. Metro State also picked up the doubles point with Air Force's lone win coming at No. 3 with Andrew Parks and Isaac Perez posting a 6-4 win. The Falcons had wins at No. 1 by Lucas Fumagalli, No. 2 by Parks, No. 4 by Olson, No. 5 by Perez and No. 6 by Luke Sanderson.
"We found a way to pull through some very tight matches against Metro St.," Air Force head coach Dan Oosterhous said. "It is good to see our guys to gain confidence tonight after a heartbreaking loss this morning. We played our best singles of the year against Wichita State and put ourselves in the driver's seat in every singles match but fell short in the big moments. We've got a win under our belt now and I expect the team to be more confident in these situations next week."
Air Force falls to 2-5 on the season. The Falcons host a pair of matches next week. Air Force plays Penn on Monday, Feb. 8, at 5 p.m. and Eastern Washington on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m.
