NEW ORLEANS – Backed by two first-team honorees, four members of the Air Force track and field team earned All-America honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association, as the USTFCCCA announced its Division I list of All-Americans this morning (March 14). The four indoor selections are the most in program history.
Collecting First-Team status in the high jump and 5000-meter run, respectively, junior Taylor Smith and senior Hannah Everson became the first Falcons in program history to earn All-America distinction in those events. Smith cleared 7'1¾" to place second in the high jump, while Everson recorded a time of 16:04.37 to finish seventh in the 5000-meter run and become the program's first indoor All-American in any running event at the Division I level.
Senior Patrick Corona and sophomore Jamiel Trimble were honored with Second-Team status. Corona placed ninth in the 3000-meter run (8:03.12) to become the program's first All-American at that distance since 2011, while Trimble finished 16th in the 200-meter dash (21.43) and became the first sprinter to garner All-America status at an indoor meet since 1967.
In addition, senior Dylan Bell was named Honorable Mention after qualifying in the pole vault.
In all, more than 550 athletes were awarded All-America status at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships. Any athlete that claimed a scoring finish (a share of first through eighth) was awarded first-team status, while those placing ninth through 16th were named as second-team selections and any who participated in the championship meet, but did not finish within the top 16, earned honorable mention status.
