2016 Football Schedule Announced

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Air Force's 2016 tentative football scheduled was announced today by the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons will play six home games featuring Abilene Christian, Georgia State, service-academy rival Navy, Hawai'i, Colorado State and Boise State.
Air Force opens the season Sept. 3, with Abilene Christian on Parents' Weekend at the Academy. Georgia State follows on Sept. 10. Following an open date Sept. 17, the Falcons play their first road game of the season by traveling to Utah State for the Mountain West opener. The quest for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy begins with Navy Oct. 1.
The Falcons play at Wyoming Oct. 8 and take on New Mexico in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas, Saturday, Oct. 15. The team returns home to host Hawai'i Oct. 22 before traveling to Fresno State Oct. 29. Air Force plays at Army Nov. 5 followed by a home game against in-state rival Colorado State Nov. 12. The team travels to San Jose State Nov. 19 before closing the regular season at home against Boise State Nov. 26.

Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports Network and ESPN will now initiate a selection procedure which will also include the shifting of particular games to Thursdays and Fridays. That will be followed by the identification of network outlets and kick times, along with the picks for regional partner ROOT SPORTS, the Mountain West Network powered by Campus Insiders and Oceanic Time Warner Cable (Hawaii). The selections will be announced later this spring.
The 2016 Mountain West football schedule is comprised of 97 games, including 48 conference matchups. The scheduling format for the 12-member football lineup consists of five intra-divisional games and three cross-divisional contests. Each institution will play four home and four road Conference games. This is the fourth year of the initial four-year cycle in which each member institution will play every other Mountain West opponent home and away.
The 2016 schedule will play out over 14 weeks and conclude on Sat., Dec. 3 with the Mountain West Football Championship Game to be played at the home stadium of the highest-ranked of the two divisional champions.
