LAKESIDE, Calif. – The Air Force golf team sits in 10th after two rounds of competition at the Barona Collegiate Cup, which began today (March 21) at the Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside, California. The Falcons shot a 37-over score of 613 (295-318) during the first two rounds of play.
Junior Sunwoo Choi posted a two-round score of 150 (72-78, six-over) to finish the opening day tied for 31st, while senior Michael Fan finished just one stroke back (73-78=151, seven-over) and tied for 38th.
Air Force's five-man roster is rounded out by its three freshmen. Turner Howe tied for 57th after the first 36 holes with an 11-over score of 155 (76-79), while Bryant Falconello and Tate Tatom are listed 71st (77-83=160, 16-over) and 73rd (74-87=161, 17-over), respectively.
Three Falcons – junior Troy Berglund, sophomore Dane Hankamer and junior Brenden Bone – are competing as individuals during this week's tournament. Berglund currently leads the trio, as he is tied for 46th with a nine-over par score of 153 (76-77). Hankamer is tied for 57th with an 11-over 155 (75-80), while Bone is tied for 66th with a two-round score of 158 (78-80, 14-over).
Host and 24th-ranked San Diego State, the only team to finish below par on Monday, currently leads the 11-team field with a 21-under tally of 555. Minnesota's Runar Arnorsson sits at the top of the individual leaderboard with an 11-under score of 133.
The Falcons return to the Barona Creek Golf Club tomorrow (March 22) for the final 18 holes of play at the Barona Collegiate Cup. Action is slated to get underway at 8:30 a.m. (PT).
