Falcons Open Action at MW Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior Brenden Bone posted a season-low round of 68 to lead the Air Force golf team during the opening day of competition at the 2016 Mountain West Championships, which began today (April 22) at the OMNI Tucson National in Arizona. Combining for a one-under par total of 287 on the first 18 holes, the Falcons are currently seventh in the team standings.
Bone, who recorded seven birdies on Friday (the second-highest total in the field), fired a four-under par tally of 68 during the first 18 holes and is currently tied for fourth in the 55-golfer field. Classmate Sunwoo Choi, who shared the tournament-lead with 15 pars, is currently tied for 13th in the standings, with a one-under score of 71. Freshman Tate Tatom is just one shot back and tied for 23rd after shooting an even-par round of 72 in his first conference championship. Just one stroke separates the final two members of the Falcons' lineup, as freshman Bryant Falconello and senior Michael Fan are tied for 47th (76, four-over) and 51st (77, five-over), respectively.
Fresno State leads the team standings after one round with a 13-under par score of 275. Two nationally-ranked teams – No. 22 San Diego State and No. 37 New Mexico – are tied for second with matching eight-under scores of 280, while Colorado State (281, seven-under) and Nevada (282, six-under) are listed fourth and fifth, respectively. No. 29 UNLV is sixth after the first 18 holes with a two-under 286, while Air Force is seventh with a one-under par tally of 287. Wyoming (eighth, 290, two-over), Boise State (ninth, 291, three-over), Utah State (10th, 293, five-over) and San Jose State (11th, 295, seven-over) round out the conference field after the opening day.
Nevada's Corey Eddings leads the individual standings with a seven-under score of 65.
Air Force returns to the Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National tomorrow (April 23) for the second round of play. Paired with UNLV, the Falcons are scheduled to begin the day at 8:20 a.m. (PT).
