Golfers Open Season at Folds of Honor Tournament, Sept. 7-9

THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team opens the 2026-27 season at the fifth annual Folds of Honor Collegiate, Monday-Wednesday, Sept. 7-9, at the American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich. The tournament is co-hosted by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), Florida State University and Michigan State University. Live scoring will be available HERE.
THE FORMAT: Golfers will play 18 holes each day on the par 72, 7,128-yard course starting at 9 am each day. Five golfers will play each day with the best four scorers counting toward the team total.
TV COVERAGE: All three rounds will be televised live on Golf Channel. The tournament will air on Mon., Sept. 7: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm and from 4:30 - 7:30 pm; Tues., Sept. 8: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm and from 4:30 - 7:30 pm; and on Wed., Sept. 9: 11:30 am - 2:30 pm and from 4:30 - 7:30 pm. All times are eastern.
THE FIELD: Along with Air Force, the 15-team field includes: No. 20 Alabama (2024 and 2025 Folds of Honor Collegiate Champions), Army, Cincinnati, Florida A&M, No. 23 Florida State, No. 22 Georgia Tech, Grand Valley State, Kansas, Michigan State, Navy, Northwestern, Notre Dame (2023 Folds of Honor Collegiate Champions), Ohio State, and No. 4 Texas. All rankings are from the 2025-26 final Bushnell/Golfweek national coaches poll.
THE LINEUP: The Air Force lineup this week is: 1-Eli Huntington; 2-Grant Samuelson; 3- Ben Zeiler; 4-Daniel Chazen; 5-Carson Baker
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The fifth annual Folds of Honor Collegiate will be contested at the Jack Nicklaus-designed American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Michigan. This year's tournament features 15 men's teams and 12 women's teams. Since the 2007 inception of Folds of Honor, there have been more than 5,000 students attend these schools on a Folds of Honor scholarship, with an educational impact of more than $24 million. The field of 15 men's and 12 women's teams will feature some of the elite college teams in the country, as well as the Service Academies, a Division II qualifier, and a men's and women's HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities).
ABOUT THE FOLDS OF HONOR: Folds of Honor is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of US military service members and first responders who have fallen or been disabled while serving our country and communities. It was founded by Lt Col Dan Rooney, the only-ever F-16 fighter pilot (with three combat tours in Iraq) and PGA Professional.
ABOUT THE AMERICAN DUNES COURSE: The Grand Haven Golf Club closed in 2018 and a limited group of patriots joined together with Jack Nicklaus to create American Dunes. The course opened in 2020. Nicklaus led the project by donating his design fee, a group of 18 individuals sponsored one hole each, and five private investors joined together to preserve the birthplace of Folds of Honor. Since the facility opened in May 2021, over $9.4 million has been donated back to Folds of Honor to provide life-changing educational scholarships.
LAST SEASON AT THE FOLDS OF HONOR: Carson Baker, Ted Davenport, and Eli Huntington led the Air Force golf team at the 2025 Folds of Honor Collegiate, at the American Dunes Golf Course in Grand Haven, Mich. On the final day, Huntington shot a 70 (-1), the best single-round score of any Falcon in the history of the Fields of Honor Collegiate. Baker and Davenport tied for the Falcon lead at 227, followed by Huntington (228), Eric Liveringhouse (232), and Brooks Morrell (236). Alabama won the tournament with an 847, followed by Notre Dame (853), as well as Kansas and Cincinnati who tied at 863. The field included two teams in the top 25 and one in the top 10. Air Force placed 14th with a 905.
THE FALCONS IN THE FOLDS OF HONOR: In the inaugural tournament, in 2022, Air Force was the top service academy. The Falcons finished in 12th-place at 930. Navy was 13th at 931 and Army was 16th at 943. In 2023, Air Force was again the top service academy. The Falcons shot a 306 in the final round for a 54-hole team score of 915. Navy shot 936 and Army came in at 938. In 2024, Eli Huntington led the Falcons, finishing his tournament with a final round 75 (+4).
LOOKING AT THE FALCONS: Air Force returns three of the six golfers who competed in the Mountain West Championships last season. Senior team captain Eli Huntington led the team with a 74.70 stroke average last season and had eight rounds at par or better. Senior Carson Baker also had eight rounds at par or better and logged a top five finish at the Commander-in-Chief's Cup at Winged Foot GC in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Sophomore Ben Zeiler burst onto the scene with a 74.88 scoring average in his freshman season.
MIRANDA ON THE HORIZON: Air Force will host the 57th Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sept. 19-21, at the Air Force Academy's Eisenhower Course. For the fifth straight year, this will be a two-part event with the team competition being played on the Blue Course and the individual competition being playing on the Silver Course.
