McElwee earns All-America honors

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Air Force fencer Mary McElwee, from San Francisco, Calif., earned All-America honors after finishing seventh in the nation in women's individual foil. The Brandeis University was the host venue for the NCAA Fencing Championships, March 24-27. Following the two–day women's championships, March 24-25, the senior was undefeated in 15 of her 16 victories. In team standings, her wins placed Air Force 16th in the nation.
McElwee concludes her Academy career as one the program's more successful woman fencers. She is one of only two Air Force women to qualify for the fencing championships in four consecutive years. Her run for the Nationals started in 2013 finishing 15th in foil. She competed in 2014 (18th) and 2015 (13th). She has brought national and international recognition to her school and the program as a medalist in multiple Junior World Cups, National Championships, North American Cup Championships and collegiate competitions.
In 2016, she was named Western Fencing Conference all-conference, and was the undefeated women's foil champion at the West Region Championships. She holds the highest career record on the team with a 240-77 (.757). She is a two-time all-region and an all-conference twice. This year's women's team captain, she is the team's most valuable fencer.
Majoring in management, McElwee(CS09) graduates in May.
