Big Innings Carry Air Force Past Omaha, 18-10

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball defeated Omaha, 18-10, in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at Falcon Field. A pair of eight-run innings lifted the Falcons to an 8-3 record.
In an offensive slugfest, the two teams combined for 39 hits, 10 for extra bases.
With Omaha (7-7) leading 4-2 after plating three runs in the top of the third, Air Force responded with eight runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 10-4.
The Mavericks did not go away, chipping away at the AF lead with five unanswered runs to pull to within one, at 10-9, after seven innings.
The Falcons put the game away with eight more runs in the eighth to go up 18-9.
Air Force had 20 hits on the day, with seven Falcons having multiple hits. Junior Adam Groesbeck went 3-for-5 with three runs and three stolen bases. Sophomore Tyler Zabojnik went 4-for-5 with, three doubles, two runs and three RBIs. Freshman Nic Ready was 2-for-5 with five RBIs.
Junior Tyler Jones and freshman Rob Dau had two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Junior Shaun Mize and freshman Drew Wiss went 2-for-2.
Air Force reliever Tyler Mortenson (1-0) picked up his first win in relief. Starting pitcher Ryan Holloway pitched 2.2 innings, striking out one. Tucker Jacobs, Austin McDaniel and Nathan Stanford also pitched in relief.
Omaha had 18 hits. Centerfielder Cole Gruber had four hits and designated hitter Ryan Cate had three hits, homered and drove in four. Maverick starting pitcher Grant Suponchick (0-1) took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings.
Air Force returns to action Friday, beginning at three-game conference series at San José State.
