Air Force Downed at Iowa

Air Force baseball dropped a 22-2 non-conference contest at Iowa Wednesday night at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City, Iowa. The Falcons dropped to 18-10.
The Hawkeyes (16-15) scored four runs in the first inning and coasted to the win. Iowa had 16 hits on the day. Third baseman Mason McCoy hit for the cycle, going 5-for-6 with a two doubles, a triple, home run and six RBIs. Starting pitcher Cole McDonald (3-1) pitched four scoreless innings for the win.
Air Force had five hits on the night. Adam Groesbeck, Justin Graham, brothers Daniel and Tyler Jones and Travis Wilkie had base hits.
The Falcons plated two runs in the ninth on a two-run base hit by Wilkie that scored Graham and Daniel Jones.
Freshman Ethan Nichols (0-1) made his first-career start for the Falcons. Nichols pitched two innings, striking out two. Austin McDaniel, Sam Rexroad, Justin Gilbert, Ryan Holloway and Gabe Martinez pitched in relief. Martinez made his debut on the mound, striking out two.
Air Force returns to action Friday, beginning a three-game Mountain West series at UNLV.
