Falcons Open Competition at NCBA Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. – Posting a 3-3 record during quarterfinal competition, the Air Force boxing team split the opening night of competition at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Championships in Seattle, Wash., on Thursday, April 7. The women added a victory in their only bout of the day, giving Air Force a 4-3 overall record.
All three of the men's victories came from referee-stopped contests over opponents from Navy. Junior Landon Tomcho claimed the Falcons' first victory, as he defeated Matt Suarez in the second round of the 139-pound quarterfinal. Classmate Johnny Wells won his 156-pound bout with Princeton Luong by another second-round stoppage, while sophomore Den Tati-Mackaya defeated Reuben Druckrey in the first-round of their 195-pound contest.
On the women's side, Heather Parcasio earned a decision over Army's Mikaila Witanen at 125 pounds.
Three additional Falcons competed in the national quarterfinals last night. Sophomore Osama Farqaleet lost a split decision to Army's Carlan Ivey at 125 pounds, while junior Pedro Barrientes dropped a decision to Miami's Rashaan Guyon at 147 pounds. Freshman DaRon Fanniel lost his 132-pound bout to Navy's VJ Sakbun, when the referee stopped their bout in the opening round.
The Falcons continue NCBA action this evening with the national semifinals. Seven of the eight remaining Academy boxers will step into the ring this evening at Alaska Airlines Arena.
