Air Force downs Idaho State in women's tennis

Air Force defeated Idaho State, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tennis match in Chubbuck, Idaho, an alternate home site for ISU.

The Falcons won every singles match, including five that went three sets to clinch the program's seventh straight winning season. Air Force opened the match by taking the doubles point. Mary Meyers and Elisa Nelson posted a 6-2 win at No. 2 while Lily Forlini and Elizabeth Barnickel posted a 6-1 win at No. 3

Meyers was a straight set winner in at No. 2 singles, beating Syenia Tegtmeier, 6-0, 6-4. Chloe Forlini won at No. 1 singles, bouncing back to win easily in the third set after dropping a second set tie-breaker, 6-2, 6-7, 6-0. Barnickel overcame a 6-0 loss in the first set to win 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 at No. 3. Lily Forlini won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 while Jocelle Rudico was a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 winner at No. 5. Meredith Laskey rounded out the win with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.

"This was really a terrific win for the team. This was an amazing team effort after yesterday's heartbreaking loss, in which the team battled back and then had match points to win," Air Force head coach Kim Gidley said. "Today was the same scenario. To play a team that was as good as yesterday's and to be able to make adjustments and come through was huge. The team all showed up on the same day and really played their hearts out. We played some of our best doubles yet. In the singles, we had five matches go three sets and lost the first set in three of them. To win every match just shows the effort the team put forth to secure the seventh consecutive winning season for our program. Now we have to prepare for the same efforttomorrow against Boise State."

Air Force improved to 13-9 overall with the win. The Falcons close out a three-match road swing at Boise State on Sunday, April 10, at 11 a.m.
