Ryan Jacobs takes silver at the USA National Rifle Championships

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLO.: Air Force rising senior Ryan Jacobs took the silver medal at the USA National Rifle Championships in Fort Benning, Ga. (June 22-24). Competing in the 50m three position men's event, Jacobs scored a 2333 in the rifle. During the first two days, the senior shot an 1171 and 1168 for a match score of 2339. Leading in day one, Jacobs was just one point behind Dempster Christenson heading into the finals, but would end up finishing eight points behind after being the first eliminated in eighth position in the finals. His finals score was a 389.2, which added a point to his match score to end with 2340.
According to head coach Launi Meili, "Ryan's score places him on the National Team for the upcoming year."
Jacobs also competed in the 50m prone rifle where he finished 17th with a two-day score of 1229.7. He finished with a 618 in the 10m air rifle event.
Also competing in the nationals, sophomore Anna Weilbacher finished 27th overall with a score of 815.9, 407.8, 408.1, respectively in the women's air rifle. She was ranked 16th in the junior category. In prone, she had a two-day score of 1213 (605.3 and 607.9). In the three position, she finished 26th with 569 total points.
Air Force newcomer Kendra Jacobs scored a 551 in the three-position for 55th place. She had a 1202.3 (597.0 and 605.3) in prone. In air rifle, she scored a 792.4 (401.0 and 391.4). She was ranked 64th in juniors.
Junior Spencer Brandon competed in the men's air rifle event, and he finished ranked 12th with a score of 616.7.
Second Lieutenant David Higgins, class of 2016, scored a 1238.9 in the prone and was ranked 10th.
The Air Force rifle team will open the 2016-2017 season in October.
