Omaha, Neb. - In front of a crowd of over 650 in Omaha, Neb., the Falcons allowed a late goal that lifted the Mavs to a win at home. Air Force returns to the home pitch with a 5-3 record as Omaha breaks a five-game winning drought.
In the first period of play, stubborn defense on both sides of the pitch limited the scoring opportunities for both teams. Junior goalkeeper John Wendt did not face a shot from Omaha in the first period while the Falcons tested Omaha goalkeeper, Joseph Ghitis, with three shots on goal. Air Force outshot Omaha, 6-4, in the first period.
The defensive clinic continued deep into the second period as the match remained scoreless at the 85th minute. The Mavs found a shot opportunity in the 86th minute as Emmanuel Hamzat sprinted ahead of the Falcon defenders in the box and put the ball in the lower right corner of the goal.
Air Force responded with some pressure of their own on the Mav's goalkeeper but was unable find the back of the Omaha goal before the end of regulation.
Sophomore Klint Parker led the Falcons with two shots on goal. Ryan Ward and Tucker Axhoj logged two shots apiece. Wendt logged four saves in 90 minutes.
Air Force returns home to defend their two-match winning streak at Cadet Soccer Stadium against the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1:00 p.m.
