The sixth-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team heads out on the road this weekend, when it travels to Minneapolis, Minn., to face 10th-ranked Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 21. The Falcons, one of just eight teams to break the 400-point mark during the opening weekend, will face the Gophers at 2:30 p.m. (CT) at the Sports Pavilion.

SCOUTING THE GOPHERS
Minnesota is currently ranked 10th in the national standings after posting a 397.600 during last week's season opener at the Windy City Invitational. The Gophers claimed three of the top-five finishes on the vault in Chicago, including Yaroslav Pochinka (second tie, 14.650), Justin Karstadt (fourth, 14.600) and Vitali Kan (fifth, 14.300).
AIR FORCE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
After the first week of the season, Air Force is ranked sixth overall with a combined score of 407.350. The Falcons are also ranked among the program's top-10 in the still rings (70.200), pommel horse (68.450), parallel bars (67.600) and high bar (65.950). Individually, Chase Cannon and Tim Wang are ranked second on the high bar (14.450) and still rings (15.200), respectively, while Wang is also ranked among the nation's top five on the pommel horse (third, 14.850) and vault (fourth, 14.700). Three other Falcons are listed among the country's top 10, as Jonathon Fornoff is ranked fourth on the parallel bars (14.700), Fletcher Braunton is tied for seventh on the pommel horse (14.300) and Aaron Nubine is listed ninth on the still rings (14.350).
FALCONS BREAK 400 IN SEASON OPENER
Recording a score of 407.350 during the Rocky Mountain Open, the Falcons were one of just eight teams in the NCAA to break the 400-point plateau – and one of six to break the 405 mark – during the first weekend of the season.
CANNON WINS HIGH BAR AT ROCKY MOUNTAIN OPEN
Chase Cannon became the first Air Force gymnast in six years to win an event title at the Rocky Mountain Open, as he captured the 2017 title on the high bar with a season-debut score of 14.450. Bettering the field by 0.150 points, the senior is just the fourth Falcon since 2001 to finish first at the RMO – joining Aaron Jackson (2003 floor exercise), Jake Schonig (2008 still rings) and James Okamoto (2011 pommel horse).

Air Force accounted for six podium finishes at the Rocky Mountain Open, en route to a runner-up team score of 407.350 and the most top-three finishes in recent program history. Chase Cannon won the high bar with a score of 14.450, while Tim Wang finished second on the pommel horse (14.850), still rings (15.200) and all-around (85.550). Wang also finished third on the vault (14.700), while Jonathon Fornoff claimed the same finish on the parallel bars (14.700).
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force begins a two-week homestand at the Academy next weekend, when it hosts service academy rival Army West Point at noon on Saturday, Jan. 28.
