Air Force rifle heads to Charleston, S.C.

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The No. 4 Air Force rifle team is heading to Charleston, S.C., this weekend to compete in matches against host school The Citadel Bulldogs and No. 20 North Georgia, VMI and Wofford on Saturday, Jan. 28. Air Force will also compete in a match against the Bulldogs on Sunday, Jan. 29.
The Falcons returned to college action following the fall to open the New Year with a match against Ohio State and Jacksonville State on Jan. 14. Air Force split 1-1 as the Falcons lost to OSU 4671-4673, and beat the Gamecocks by 45 points (4626). Air Force sophomore Anna Weilbacher broke a school record for smallbore shooting a 592 in the rifle; her aggregate in the match (1184) was also a school record. Sophomore Spencer Cap scored the team's highest score for the air rifle (594). Following that match, Air Force moved two spots up in the College Rifle Coaches Association Poll from sixth to fourth place as of Jan. 24.
Following the match in Charleston, the Air Force rifle team will get ready for the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships hosted by Ohio State. Smallbore is slated for Feb. 4 and air rifle is on Feb. 5 against conference opponents Alaska-Fairbanks, Nevada, Ohio State, TCU, and UTEP.
In Charleston, the action begins at the Inouye Marksmanship Center at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and 7:45 a.m. Sunday. Live results from both matches will be available at CitadelSports.com.
